Description: The Relief nurse provides professional nursing care in a substance abuse program serving primarily homeless adults who need public health-supported residential services to detoxify from the abuse of alcohol, stimulants, opiates or other drugs. This program provides 24-hour care, medically supported detoxification services, observation, assessment, treatment, and referral during a stay of 7-21 days.

Staff Nurse

Period: Full-Time & Part-Time
Salary: $23.38 per hour

Skills: The Staff Nurse provides professional nursing care in a substance abuse program serving primarily homeless adults who need public health-supported residential services to detoxify from the abuse of alcohol, stimulants, opiates or other drugs. This program provides 24-hour care, medically supported detoxification services, observation, assessment, treatment, and referral during a stay of 7-21 days.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possess valid California License as a Vocational Nurse LVN. Have at least one year’s nursing experience working with a culturally diverse population in either clinics, homeless shelters, patients’ homes, or other sites where the targeted population congregates. Experience working with substance abuse detox. Experience working with mentally ill adults also preferred. Current Level B CPR License.
Description: PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Implements directives for new admissions from medical screening at health facilities. Monitors health changes and client's progression through continuous assessment and intervention. Educates clients regarding the effects of the substance abuse detox process with any co-existing medical problems. Administers medications and treatments per protocols for safety and quality care. Documents patient care information and clinical interventions. Works as a member of an interdisciplinary team which includes clinicians, nurses, mental health, and substance abuse counseling staff. Assesses nutritional needs and ensures that diet is appropriate to support client through detox process. Participates in the treatment planning for each client, helping to set realistic and attainable goals to reach in 7-21 days. Performs other tasks as needed.
